Sandra is an active person. She loves swimming, horseback riding and and trips to the beach. She also loves riding her motorcycle with her friends and family. Thoughts of retiring or taking it easy rarely enter her mind.
Over the last several years, Sandra was forced to slow down because of her arthritic right hip. When physical therapy and chiropractic treatments failed to offer any relief, Sandra became increasingly frustrated by her limited mobility.
Sandra knew she had to do something when she began to struggle to get in an out of the car. Grocery shopping and other tasks became increasingly difficult, but Sandra had no choice other than to keep moving. Finally she couldn't take the pain anymore, and she made an appointment with Dr. George Markovich to discuss her options for treatment. After reviewing her particular case, Dr. Markovich suggested Sandra's hip be replaced.
Initially Sandra was nervous about hip replacement surgery. However, she was anxious to return to horseback riding, swimming and her other activities. On February 25, 2008, Sandra decided to have the CONSERVE® Total Hip with BFH® Technology from Wright implanted using the minimally-invasive PATH® technique. The PATH® Tissue-Preserving Technique helps reduce the amount of soft tissue damage during surgery, which can dramatically quicken recovery. Sandra appreciated that this hip replacement was designed to mimic the natural kinematics of the hip, providing greater range of motion, and a reduced chance of dislocation for active patients.
The results of Sandra's hip replacement surgery have been remarkable. Upon awaking from surgery, Sandra felt better than she had in a long time. She was able to walk right away with the assistance of a walking aide, and was thrilled not to feel the mind-numbing pain she had experienced for so long. Less than one month after surgery, she drove herself to a follow-up appointment with Dr. Markovich.
She can hardly believe the range of motion she regained as result of her new hip. She is participating in regular exercise classes and she is horseback riding again. However, one of her happiest days occurred when she got back on her beloved motorcycle. In Sandra's own words, "I feel I am almost as good as new!"
